Peter Murphy, lead singer of Bauhaus (Bela Lugosi’s Dead) and Trent Reznor, Jeordie White and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails cover The Normal’s Warm Leatherette

GOTH-GASM!  This made me gleeful with nostalgia— Peter Murphy’s voice is the definition of goth, and Trent’s NIN edge makes this song, a standard of the scene, have a whole new hard edge to it.

Hot Like Fire by The xx
originally by Aaliyah

The xx take a 1996 R&B jam, remove the beats, add a lot of cross-faded atmosphere and their dueted voices to give us a sweet and sexy track about holding off a bit before having sex with someone. I’d argue the cut does a great job of musically capturing the feeling one builds up in this scenario.

Oh it’s gonna be, hot like fire

It certainly sounds like the wait will be worth it to me. —indieandyy

Paper Planes by The Da Vincis
originally by M.I.A.

Ok, I already know what you’re thinking… another Paper Planes cover? I know… I know. (Hey, at least it isn’t MGMT or Kings of Leon, right?) But this one is really, really great. These three 17 year old kids from Jackson, Mississippi really get music. It’s catchy, it’s pretty funny, and I’m pretty sure you’ll dig it even if you hate the original. By the way, they’re releasing their debut LP, See You Tonight on Tuesday.

Spacetruck » “Low Rider” (War Cover)

A spacey interpretation of a classic melody- the only way a Moog-friendly jam band can do.

The Cleverlys » “I Kissed a Girl” (Katy Perry Cover)

Trading mini skirts for some damn sharp suits, these bluegrass charmers are the epitome of “felt so wrong, but felt so right.”
